May 20, 2025 - WiseOS v2.5.0
May 14, 2025 - WiseOS v2.4.10 📍
- 🆕 Added - Google Maps is now available by default on the Wisephone II, instead of Organic Maps, as our chosen map and navigation tool. We learned that while Organic Maps was open source and community driven, it was hard to use and was not helpful for many. Therefore, we hit the drawing board about how we could use the benefits of Google Maps while minimizing the potential vices. By disabling images and videos on Google Maps, we found that to be the perfect combination of an app that’s helpful and safe.
- Q: Can Google Maps be deleted?
- Currently, Google Maps is set as the default app and can only be "disabled." To do this, navigate to Settings > Open System Settings > Apps > Maps > Disable.
- Q: Can I still use Organic Maps if I want to?
- Yes. If you previously had Organic Maps, it should still be available for use on your home screen.
- Q: What about images or videos that people publicly upload on Google Maps?
- Images and videos have been disabled and will not render inside of our version of Google Maps. We aimed to strike a balance between productivity and efficiency with safety.
- Q: What if I’ve used Google Maps in the past via the “Google Apps” add-on, will images and videos be blocked?
- Yes for any new images, and no for any images previously viewed on Google Maps. Those old images would be cached (saved to memory) and able to be viewed again. To reset that, on WiseOS home screen, go to “Settings” > “Open System Settings” > “Apps” > “Google Maps” > “Storage” > Click “Clear data” and “Clear cache”
May 13, 2025 - WiseOS v2.4.9
- 🐛 Fixed - There existed a bug that made renaming apps on the WiseOS home screen difficult. That has been resolved in v2.4.9.
- 💡 Tip: To rename or consider apps to pin to your home screen, hold down on an app name until the edit apps mode appears. Then, you can customize the app name to be whatever you’d like. We recommend choosing verbs. For example, instead of “Phone”, try “Call”. Instead of “Messages”, try “Text”. This helps you set a clear intention for why you’d use an app. Or, try using emojis ☎️!
May 5, 2025 - WiseOS v2.4.8
- 🐛 Fixed - A few people experienced a bug when changing the app icon, namely Pocket Casts, then it caused the home screen to crash and not load the list of apps. While we don’t show app icons on the WiseOS home screen, we’re happy to say this bug has been squished in v2.4.8. Thank you to those who report bugs to help make WiseOS better for everyone!
